MAPPING THE EROSION OF PUBLIC SPACE IN TBILISI

  CASE STUDY #1

 SOLOLAKI

The neighborhood of Sololaki is part of Tbilisi's Old City. Notorious for its narrow, winding streets, the main threat to public space in this area comes from parked cars.

   CASE STUDY #2

 SABURTALO

The neighborhood of Saburtalo is located in the west of the city and is primarily comprised of mid-to-high-rise residential buildings from the Soviet era. The main threats to public space in this neighborhood come from residents enclosing courtyards, un-authorized building extensions, and vehicle parking.

  CASE STUDY #3

 Marjanishvili

The neighborhood of Marjanishvili is located on the left (north) bank of the river Mktvari. It is an older, mainly residential, neighborhood that beginning in 2010s has undergone dramatic reconstruction in certain areas, including new facades and pedestrianized streets.
